Fully functional cyber crime stations: Still a distant dream in J&K

JAMMU, Aug 17: The cyber crime stations are still distance dream in the Jammu and Kashmir State.

The department has no fully trained manpower, Software and hardware and there is few computer in three cyber crime stations. Police department established three cyber police stations in the State on last year.

It is pertinent to mention here that on November 15, 2011, the then Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda had announced that three cyber police stations would be made functional in the State from December 15, 2011. Two of the cyber police stations were to be setup in Srinagar and another in Jammu.

Official source said that in Jammu city, it was to come up at Gandhi Nagar and in Srinagar, cyber police stations were supposed to be established at Crime Branch Headquarters and SOG headquarters near Haft Chinar. He further said that, not a single cyber police station has made operational so far.

He further said that the men are major problem; there is shortage of people, who have technological know-how of the computers. Those who have nominated for the job need to be trained. At present police is inefficient to check the cyber crime and have to depend on it experts from outside the State.


“There are few computers, besides; no software or hardware has been procured to check different cyber crimes. No staffs have been designated for the police stations, however, apart from paneling the rooms, nothing has been done on the ground, “he added.

When contacted, Inspector of General of Police (IG), Jammu Dilbag Singh said that the cyber crime station at Gandhi Nagar is fully functioning last few months. He admitted that the operators have not fully trained at yet. The process of creating cyber police stations will be time consuming. “It will take some police have adequate trained men to take charge of cyber police stations.
