It is pertinent to mention here that on November 15, 2011, the then Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda had announced that three cyber police stations would be made functional in the State from December 15, 2011. Two of the cyber police stations were to be setup in Srinagar and another in Jammu.

At present police is inefficient to check the cyber crime and have to depend on it experts from outside the State.

“There are few computers, besides; no software or hardware has been procured to check different cyber crimes. No staffs have been designated for the police stations, however, apart from paneling the rooms, nothing has been done on the ground, “he added.

When contacted, Inspector of General of Police (IG), Jammu Dilbag Singh said that the cyber crime station at Gandhi Nagar is fully functioning last few months. He admitted that the operators have not fully trained at yet. The process of creating cyber police stations will be time consuming. “It will take some police have adequate trained men to take charge of cyber police stations.

Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored.
