Govt. established mere committee to finds ways to save
Nitesh Sangral
JAMMU, Aug 27: With hundreds of tonnes of food grains rotting in the stores for want of care, Consumer Affair and Public Distribution (CAPD) has announced to establish a committee to find ways to save the remaining food grains.

Though officials claim that it is just a eye wash but the incident has once again exposed the tall claims made by the State Government to provide better warehousing facilities for stocking food grains in the state.

On last Tuesday, the Consumer Affair and Public Distribution (CAPD) godown at Nehru Market was flooded with water resulting in loss of 51 quintals of sugar and 70 quintals of rice.

It is pertinent to mention here that last several years the condition of the warehouse was crispy. A proposal also made to build a new godown at warehouse.

However, has not yet started work in this direction. Broken water warehouse hit the roof and walls through some door and lying on the ground was wet sacks of sugar and rice. He also said that this town has affected the food supply.

Source said that percolating roofs and grains stored in open in the old and worn out warehouse building added to the miseries of concerned authorities. Despite their hectic efforts a large quantity of food grains bags were seen submerged in the knee-deep water.

He further said that there is no proper drainage outside the twenty number godown, where the water level increased with the heavy rainfall and logged water entered into the store. He said that JMC is responsible for water logging, and they are answerable why drains are choked.

Interestingly, a question raise toward JMC that the basic duty, but Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation JMC has claimed no one of the CAPD official has approached JMC for improving the drainage system outside the godown. “If there is dire need of proper drainage, the department should have come forward”.

Director CAPD, Parvez Ahmed Malik said that the department constituted a committee before four days ago now they are doing his work efficiently.
