Deputy CM business delays inauguration of traffic lights in the city

JAMMU, Aug 03: Traffic Lights will now have to wait for one more day to begin the blinking lights in the city as the deadline for its operation has been extended to August 4 evening, as the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand had no time to inaugurate these lights. This is for the third time that the deadline for the first phase of traffic light project has been extended by the traffic police department.

Pertinently, the deadline was set as June 18 but due to certain hiccups after that the Traffic Police claimed that the traffic light start on end of June. Some days ago in the press conference, the IG traffic said that the traffic light start on August 3 but interestingly, this time also missed the deadline.

Official source said that the traffic department has full prepared to start the traffic lights in the first phase. However, Deputy Chief Minister has no time to inaugurate the traffic light on August 3. The Minster gets time to the traffic department for inauguration of lights in the city on August 4 evening at Bikram Chowk.

“In the first phase, ten Electric Traffic Signal Lights (ETSL) will be operational in the city, he said, adding as a trial measure, traffic situations at various junctions will be surveyed to fix the time accordingly for the signal,” he added.

He further said that some reason behind the delay of traffic light functioning in the state. The traffic light could not be installing at all the identified locations. In the Jammu city installed the first traffic signal at the busy Bikram Chowk for trial bases.

"Remaining 30 crossings will be taken up under second phase of the project in interior parts of the city. These traffic signals will be supplied with adequate power and would direct the traffic movement round the clock”, he said.

When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic, Manmohan Singh said that the lights inauguration on august 3 but to to some reason the department have extended the date for one day on August 4.

He further said that the inauguration function would hold in the Bikram Chowk and Dy. Chief Minster. Singh also claimed the special traffic squad will also deploy in the city, where installed the signals for guild the common masses.
