80 % Auqaf land encroached in R.S Pura

JAMMU, Aug 10: 80 percent of Auqaf land has alleged encroachment by local land mafia in the RS Pura.

Property in R S Pura is illegally occupied, including even mosques and graveyards. The rampant encroachment seems to be enjoying political patronage.

In the State at different locations the huge numbers of government as well as Auqaf land occupied by the locals but the concerned authority always maintain that the concerned departments are taking necessary action against them.

The committee members claimed that Wakf properties situated in prime urban area are being targeted and encroached by the land mafia. R S Pura was a Muslim majority district in united India, but in the communal riots following the partition has changed the demography of the region.

Source said that, according to Auqaf Islamia, 80 percent of its property in R S Pura is illegally occupied. It alleges in many cases even the mosques and graveyards are occupied to shops build shops.

“The school building has two kanals of land but in revenue records of 1971, the school is shown to have around 23 kanals which was mistakenly,” he said, while assuring that no one will be allowed to encroach on the land.

The concerned authority claimed that they have not received any complaint regarding the encroachment or occupation of Auqaf Land. They said that administration will take action and evict the land if it is indeed encroached by locals.

“The existing Aquaf land in Meran Sahib is around 20 kanals and it has not been encroached by any one.

“There are two schools on both the sides of Aquaf land and the land is fenced from all sides so there is no question of encroachment,” he added.

However, the SDM said both the school and Aquaf administration have claim on the 25-foot boundary of the land in question and it will be taken back, if it is occupied.
