32,611 traffic violators challaned by Traffic police in Jammu

JAMMU Apr 27: The “challan” system for collecting traffic fines has been a runaway success, some months after it was introduced in Jammu and Kashmir, the number of cases booked and the money collected as fine have doubled.
According to traffic police department record, in January to February, 32,611 traffic violators have been challaned by traffic police and these violators also filed in the Jammu court. As per the data of shows the deficiency in the traffic violators as compared to the last few years. The locals understand the norms of traffic police and they obey the rules and regulations.


It is pertinent to mention here that the defective number plates, driving while talking on the cell phones seems to be emerging as a serious offence. Seeming all this Traffic Police has taken the step to increase the amount of challan.


Official’s source said that the drink with drive cases have increased in the Jammu city from last some months and the traffic police also registered case on them. “Some people also riding bikes and other vehicles without driving licence and helmets. The department will file challan against them as soon as possible in the court” he added.


He further said that the main purpose of increasing the amount of challan is that the violators should not give challan and free from the spot. But now the police department has raised the amount so that violators will take avoid such circumstances in which challan is done by concern department.


When contacted Inspector General of Police, Traffic, H K Lohia said that after the implement of these norms, the department has seems certain decrease in the number of challans.


He further said that the particular the youth is taking keen precautions to avoid any such incident.
