Jammu celebrates 121th birth anniversary of Baba Saheb

JAMMU, April 14: To mark the 121st birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, a number of functions were organised in Jammu to pay homage to the great leader and highlight his contribution to the making of modern India.
A motor rally to create awareness among masses was organised by All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC.


To aware the citizens about the life, mission and message of Babasaheb, the rally was flagged off by RK Kalsotra, president of the state Unit.


Speaking on the occasion, Kalsotra said said that equality, liberty and fraternity, the basic goals of Babasaheb’s ideology, could only be fulfilled if all the countrymen, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, walk on the path chalked out by Babasaheb. He said that government has not done enough to honour the noble soul.


He demanded that the state government should build a Grand Bhawan in the name of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to honour him and the new bridge, being built on river Tawi, should also be named as Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bridge.


Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also celebrated Birthday of Kanshi Ram at Bahujan Samaj Party office at Kathua. During the function, the speaker highlighted the life of Bharat Rattan Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar.


Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has paid rich tributes to Bharat Ratan Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 121st Birth Anniversary. Speaking in meeting J&K PCC Senior Vice President Dharam Pal, while paying tributes to the father of Indian Constitution, PCC leaders described him as one of the towering personalities of modern India who will always be remembered for his outstanding contribution for the upliftment of the downtrodden people in this country.


He added that Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar will always be remembered for his pivotal role in formulating the Constitution of India, a large democracy in the World.


National Secular Forum (NSF) also celebrated 121th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar at Gandhi Park R.S.Pura. Advocate Chaman Lal Bhagat was the chief guest, Retd. Dy. Director Agriculture department Bihari Lal Bhagat was the guest of honour.


Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Chaman Lal Bhagat appreciated the initiative taken by the NSF member to remember the Ambedkar birth anniversary and said that the biggest tribute to maker of Indian constitution is to realize his dreams and vision of a strong democracy to ensure equality for all. He said, besides being the architect of Indian Constitution, Dr Ambedkar fought for the poor and downtrodden people of the country. Dr. B R Ambedkar was a multi-faceted personality and he spent his whole life fighting against social discrimination, the categorization of Hindu society into four varnas and the caste system.


BJP Anusuchit Jaati Morcha observed 121st birth anniversary of Dr. Bheem Rao Ambedkar in a unique way by performing traditional “Kanjak Poojan” ceremony in honour of girl children belonging to scheduled caste families.


BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas, said that whatever Dr. Ambedkar did against untouchability and other social evils was the indicator of his clear vision that our country shall remain backward till all the religions, sections and castes are not treated equal. National Executive Member Dr. Nirmal Singh alleged that the state government continues discrimination with scheduled Castes in such as including appointments and regularization of ReT officials where there is no reservation. He also described it as a violation of the provision of Indian Constitution founded by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.


Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the failure of Dalit class to receive its due is in fact a part of the failure of socialistic dream seen by the founding fathers of this nation at the time of independence. Describing Dr. Ambedkar as the author of the greatest “Granth” of independent India namely the constitution of India, he said that salvation lies in economic prosperity and education because an educated economically independent class can never be subordinated by social or caste prejudices.

One more case of GMCH doctors' alleged negligence came to the fore when the report of Dr Bhupinder Singh, a pediatrician tested negative for H1N1. He had died of respiratory problems last Thursday. The doctors had not bothered to examine him for some other disease. Similarly, a few days ago, a patient namely Raj Kumar died in the isolated ward of GMCH.
