Curfew continues in Rajouri, additional security forces deployed

JAMMU, Mar 10: Curfew continued for the third day in the district Rajouri even police have been detained three more persons for violating the restrictions imposed. Curfew was imposed on Wednesday night as authorities feared a flare-up after religious procession was attacked by miscreants. The concerned department has been deployed additional security personnel in sensitive areas of the town to maintain peace and tranquility.

Source said that the today situation is normal from the morning as there is no report from any such incident.

he further said that Police had imposed curfew in the town on Wednesday night, after some unidentified persons pelted stones at a religious procession, prompting security personnel to lob tear gas shells to disperse them. He said the stone-pelters were protesting against a recent remark of VHP international president Praveen Togadia, which they claimed had hurt the sentiments of a particular community.

He further said that on Friday PDP legislators staged a walkout from Assembly, PDP alleged that the government failed to take measures to bring normalcy in the town and PDP demanded to Speaker to speak over the issue.

According to official version the curfew is being continued in the Rajouri without any relaxation. No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in the district so far and the situations are under control. Three persons have been detained for violating curfew restrictions on Friday evening. The police already detained 13 persons in connection with the incident for questioning.

Dr Tagodia visited Rajouri on Sunday for fund collection (Dharam Raksha Nidhi) and addressed a gathering of approximately of 1,000 persons at Shakha Ground Rajouri. During his speech, he made some provocative comments for which case under FIR No 984012 U/S 153-A RPC was registered against him at Police Station Rajouri,' Mr Sagar said. The Minister said that Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Dilbagh Singh has already visited the Rajouri and supervised the administrative action.

“A case has also been registered against Dr Togadia under section 153-A of Ranbir Penal Code. Meanwhile, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district so far and the situation is under control”, he said.
