Sex mafia luring poor girls into prostitution, police helpless due to political pressure

Nitesh Sangral
JAMMU, July 2: The recently surfacing of sex racket involving orphan girls has once again brought in focus the plight of the poor girls in the state, who are lured in sex trade.

One such case busted about a fortnight ago with the arrest of a woman from Janipura on the disclosure of a minor girl whom she was alleged to have forced into prostitution, depicts the deep roots of the sex mafia, in which high and mighty are involved.
It is pertinent to mention here that the racket was being run by Santosh Kumari wife of Vijay Kumar resident of Durga Nagar. Police has arrested her along with some other people involved in the racket.

Sources said that there are hundreds of girls who are being lured by some unscrupulous elements with promise of jobs in city and are being pushed in the sex trade. “Problem lies in the fact that some of the politicians and influential people are involved in the racket which makes investigation slow”, said police officials.

Sources said that most of the girls belong to remote and border districts of Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Doda, Poonch and Rajouri, living away from their homes, which are special target of the mafia.

“At times some of the girls get exploited because they need money to run their families. In most of the cases, mafia exploit their this weakness. This is total cruel world in which there is no regard for the human emotions”, said a source.

Pertinent to mention here that though the Chinore sex racket was exposed about a 15 days back, but so far nothing has been done to expose the culprits involved in it.

When contacted SP Rural Rakesh Sharma said that till now 9 people have been arrested out of which 2 are females including santosh kumara the kingpin and her sister. He added that other suspects are in their vigilance and their phones are being traced to get the desired results.

A senior official said that sex trade is spreading too fast in Jammu and Kashmir and despite various measures taken to nib the bud in infancy; it has become a major menace for the law enforcement agencies.
