Intruder gunned down by BSF at Samba

JAMMU, May 30: The Border Security Force personnel, early this morning, killed an intruder who was trying to sneak into Indian Territory from a forward Border out Post on the International Border in Samba district, amid heavy exchange of firing with Pakistani Rangers.

Deputy Inspector General, BSF, J.S. Oberoy, when contacted said the BSF personnel who were on guard duty at Border out Post Regal noticed suspicious movement on the international border- near the Indian side, early this morning.

“The Pak rangers subsequently opened fire and the BSF retaliated with effectively,” he informed, while saying “We do not know how many intruders were behind the slain person, killed by BSF today.” Sources said that the BSF has intensified vigil on the border and patrolling has been intensified to foil any bid on infiltration.

Despite being repeatedly challenged by the personnel, the senior BSF officer said, the intruder ignored the warning and entered the Indian Territory from Border out Post Regal (Samba) on the International Border, forcing the BSF personnel to open fire.

“The intruder was killed in the firing of BSF and his body was taken
in the custody. His body was frisked but no recovery was made. The body has been handed over to the police for its legal formalities,” DIG J.S. Oberoy said.

Immediately, he said, the Pak rangers too opened fire and the firing continued for nearly 10 minutes between the two sides in which loss of live occurred.
It may be mentioned here that it was the same post from where armed militants had entered Samba in May 11, 2008 night and they had killed prominent socialist leader Hoshiar Singh and his wife Shashi Bala of International Democratic Party in their residence. “Atleast six persons were killed by the militants in Samba,” the sources informed.
