Anjana rape-suicide case Special teams to record statement of her hostel friends in HP, Punjab

JAMMU, June 22: Jammu police has sent special teams to Himanchal Pradesh (HP) and Punjab to record the statements of the friends of deceased Anjana Sihag, who was allegedly raped and killed by a army solider.

Sources said that after getting hold of the accused, who posed himself as Army major and exploited the girl, police is now looking for the friends of the victim to know exactly what happened on that fateful day to understand the circumstances which forced Anjana for suicide.

“We have sent special teams to both the places and Rajasthan where some of the friends of victim are living. We want to collect all the details so that accused is not able to get bail and case against him is strengthened”, said a police officer.

It is pertinent to mention here that the police after the gap of three years reopened the file and started investigation and after hectic efforts identified the accused at present posted at Southern command. The girl hailing from Rajasthan had been tortured and gang-raped and later she committed suicide in hostel room of her college in Bari Brahmana area of Samba district on Sept 20, 2007.

Abdul Gaffar is presently a soldier posted in 158 MED Regiment as Naik. He had hidden his identity to influence the girl and also posed himself as Captain to develop friendly relations with the college girl studying in B.Ed College at Bari Brahmana. During his posting from 2006 to 2010 in Udhampur Command area, the incident of torture, rape and suicide took place in Sept 2007.

When contacted SDPO Bari Brahmana Naresh Singh said that teams will record the details and that would be integrated in the statement so that strong case is build against the accused.

He further said that it is not a police matter to take action on Lt Colonel, who had allegedly signed the Forged Dependent Card because this is matter within the Army and it’s their duty take legal action against him. “The concerned police is also questioning the culprit Abdul Gaffar,” he added.

Surprisingly, this is a big question for the security forces that how the accused had managed to prepare fake I-Card and projected him as Aman Kumar? If these I-Cards are being made than it is defiantly danger for the security of the country.
