TNI tracks bovine smuggler Police sleeping, bovine smuggler running scot free

Nitesh Sangral
JAMMU, May 20: While bovine smuggling has emerged as a bigger threat in recent past but it seems that administration is sleeping over the issue. While at times people are themselves taking the law into their own hands, which shows the inability of the police to rein in on the smugglers.

None of the areas have remained unaffected by this menace and mostly cattle from rural areas are picked up by the mafia and sent to the Kashmir valley, where their demand remains high.

TNI investigation shows that one such smuggler a man namely Shama son of Malki Ram resident of Smailpur Khodaya, is a major person involved in the bovine trafficking and has been involved in the illegal trade for last many years.

Even the police know about his role in the illegal trade, but sources told TNI that no step is taken to arrest the person despite that fact that many people are willing give details about his links.

He further said that the Shama name has also surfaced in the recent case in Bari Brahmana police where 13 bovine animals where recovered by the police but event after that no action was taken against the person.

“He mostly pick up the stray animals and sell them to the bovine traffickers who pay handsome money to him. Later they sell the cattle in Kashmir and border districts of the region, where the demand is high”, said a source.

It is pertinent to mention here that these trades continue in rural areas like Bishana, RS pura, Udhampur and other areas. But the police concerned police officials arrested kith-kin but who is main accused out of police net. The police only conducted raids just for the name sake.

SSP Samba has also said we are also arrested them when the smuggler comes in concerned police station for release their vehicles.”

The police officials is no anyone arrested them when they came to release his vehicles. The accused simply release his vehicles and go away from the concerned police station’ “officials source said.”

Interestingly, these areas police station deployed many “nakas” or checking “posts” for check the load carrier vehicles after that the accused reached, where they sell the animals in high prices.

When contacted Inspector of General (IG), Jammu zone, Dilbag Singh, he refused to comment on this issue and said that investigation is going on and they are taking every steps to track the people involved in the illegal business.
