Petrol Price Hike Leaves Citizens Angry

Nitesh Sangral
JAMMU, May 16: The recent hike in the fuel prices across the country has not gone well with the common man as they have termed the increase ‘anti-people’ which will have long term impact on the common man.

Pardeep Singh resident of Gandhi Nagar said that the common masses are already hit by inflation and the latest increase is bound to add to their miseries. “Once the petrol price is hiked, everything else becomes expensive. It has further burdened the common man”, he added.

He further said that this is the ninth price hike of petrol in the span of last nine months. People termed the hike as totally irresponsible action by a government despite the fact the food prices have already increased.

People say that said that the day is not far when people have to buy petrol Rs 100 per litre under this present UPA government.

Rahul Gupta, an private sector employee said that even the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a well known economist has not uttered a single word over the recent increase in petrol prices, which showed the lop-sided approach of the UPA government on economic front. He said that this increase in price hike would affect all other essential items of daily use and would make add to the miseries of common man.

“In our state as per the latest survey 41 percent of the people are below poverty line but there is no policy and programme by both state and centre government to redress their problems”, said Kuldeep Singh.

Yesterday activists of Shiv Sena and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) had staged a noisy protest against the UPA government for its failure to control the inflation. The protestors while chanting anti-government slogans alleged that it has become virtually impossible for poor to meet the two ends of day.

They warned that the party would also launch series of protest against the government for its “anti-poor” policies.

On Saturday, the state-owned oil companies had announced hike in petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre. This was the ninth hike in petrol prices in last 11 months.

The government had freed petrol price from government control in June last but the oil companies had not raised prices on an ‘informal’ dictate from the oil ministry. This was the ninth hike in petrol prices in as many months.
