Nearly 0.5 lakh vehicles, 1.5 people decongest City of Temples Secretariat shifts to Winter Capital; Jammu heaves sigh of relief

JAMMU, April 30: The Civil Secretariat has closed its functioning in Summer Capital here for the next six month and reopen, in Srinagar on May 9. With this, the Summer Capital would heave a sigh of relief till onset of winter as nearly 50,000 vehicles and nearly 1.5 lakh people shift their activities to Srinagar.

According to report, nearly 102 government vehicles have been loaded with office record that would leave for Srinagar on Sunday morning amid tight security arrangement.

The State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) has been deputed with the task to make available sufficient number of buses in good condition for transportation of Kashmir based employees on April 30 and May 1 and Jammu based employees on 7th and 8th of May. The booking of buses shall be for the destination of the employees from civil secretariat as well as from the main booking counters of SRTC.

SP Traffic Zahid Manhas told that adequate arrangement of paramilitary personnel and police has been made to man the National Highway for smooth shifting of Secretariat.

Reports added that the Secretariat employees who are permanent residents of Srinagar have to leave Jammu and some will go with the official records tomorrow. The first batch of vehicles would leave tomorrow morning with the tight security cover. It is pertinent to mention here that subversive elements always take opportunity to strike Secretariat Convoy at some places on National Highway especially Banihal and Qazigund.
