LeT militants gunned down after fierce encounter in Kishtwar

JAMMU, April 21: Two hardcore militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in a fierce gunbattle with security forces in Kishtwar district Thursday morning.
According to official sources, acting on aspecific information about the presence of militants, a joint operation party of Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and police launched a cordon and search operation in Keshwan
forest belt in the district early this morning. Officials said that finding the security forces approaching toward them, the hiding militants believed to be three in number, started firing indiscriminately, which was also effectively retaliated by the troops.
In the ensuing gunfight which lasted several hours, two militants got killed who have been identified as Sultan and Jan Mohmmad, both residents of Kishtwar district. The third militant managed to escape
from the site of encounter.
According to DIG Udhampur-Doda range, M.K.Sinha , apart from their involvement in many militant activities, the duo was also involved in the killing of a police head constable recently in Kishtwar district.
One AK rifle, two magazines, one Chinese grenade have so far been recovered from the site of encounter.
Though terrorists had tried to escape from the area during the early hours of encounter, However, they were engaged in gun battle which continued for about 4 hours. In the ensuing gun battle two terrorists
of LeT outfit were eliminated whereas two other terrorists are believed to have escaped from the site.
The slain terrorists had been part of much dreaded LeT group under Salman alias Habib Gujjar which is active in Keshwan area of Kishtwar area. He also joined Noman group in the year 2009 whereas Jan Mohd had recently joined the outfit.
The other two terrorists namely Isaq Lone son of Gh. Mohd and Habibullah alias Salman, the Chief of LET Group, are believed to have escaped. Salman is believed to have been injured in the operation.
Salman group was responsible for the killing of one Gurjan Bibi mother of HC Qasim Din resident of Anjole Kishtwar for which case FIR No. 248/2010 under section 302 RPC, 7/27 IAA had been registered on 21-11-2010 at Police station Kishtwar.
According to report, many case registered on Salman and his group for other acts of murder, sabotage and subversion in police station Kishtwar and Doda districts.
Police said that LeT which had received a serious setback in district Kishtwar after elimination of Ishaq Bhat alias Atiq led group in Bonjwah, was in the process of revival under Salman group in Keshwan.
With the elimination of these terrorists, LeT in Kishtwar district is on the verge of extinction. Salman group was regularly on the lookout for new recruits and was maintaining contact with their mentors across the border who had been directing them to disturb peace in the region.
A massive search operation is continuing for tracing the other two terrorists, one of whom is believed to be injured.
Speaking in conference Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone Dilbag Singh, said that we have appreciated the good work done by Police and Security forces for fight against the antinational elements.
He further said that they would continue such type of operations in future to frustrate the evil designs of anti national elements. He also appealed to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir fully corporation with
police and when was illegal activities going on inform the police for tackle this situation

Doctors' "negligence" claims 2 lives
