| Jammu: Laws are meant to be broken. This is truly applicable as far as high profile politicians of the state are concerned. These persons flout the government norms with impunity and also law enforcing agencies does not bother to take action against them. There are two glaring examples which are sufficient to prove the point. Two Car Showrooms and Workshops in Jammu city owned by fastly emerged lever of power, Political Advisor to Chief Minister Devinder Singh Rana vehemently involved in encroachment of roads by illegally parking vehicles. One is at BC Road and other one is on National Highway (Bye Pass Road) at Channi Himmat. At Channi Himmat workshop, people who come for servicing of their vehicles used to park on the sub-lane up to hundred metres in front of Jamkash Car Showroom. Not only this, these cars were also being parked on road across the Jamkash showroom and also adjoining lane. These showrooms do not have requisite parking space. It causes inconvenience to the vehicles which ply on this road. The concerned departments ignored the complaints over the issue for reason being the showrooms are owned by the Political Advisor to the Chief Minister. Further, the Jamkash on BC road, vehicles of customers of the showroom are seen parked on the half of the road. Due to this, traffic jam on the road is a regular feature. Commenting on this, Chairman of BJP Legislature Party, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said that laws are equal to everyone whether one is a common man or the politician. These are trustees of people's interests and welfare. There work is to maintain the laws, rules and regulation. Gupta said that law should be same for everybody and he/she should be dealt sternly by the law enforcing agencies. But, the same is not happening. When contacted, Inspector General Police (IGP) Traffic H K Lohia, also maintained that law is equal for everybody. As far as parking is concerned, there is shortage of parking space in the city; the police department cannot harass people on the pretext of illegal parking. If there is any highhandedness by the said showrooms, action would be taken after proper investigations, he added." | |
