Nitesh Sangral

JAMMU: Various schemes of the central government for the benefit of the deprived sections of the society are not coming up to the expectations of the concerned sections of the society because highhandedness and corruption in the government departments.

This is particularly true in the alleged irregularities in SC/ST/OBC Corporation of the state. The corporation was formed for uplift the people of BPL belonging to Gujjar and Bakerwal and other tribal communities of the state besides SC/OBC, but sources said that the officials of the corporation are always on prowl to manipulate the things in the name of poor peopled and the benefits of the schemes meant for them are not being percolated down to the real beneficiaries.

Roshan Din-a tribal person from hilly area of district Udhampur stated they had to face a lot of problems in getting themselves registered with the corporation, and even faced problems and bureaucratic hurdles in getting Below Poverty Line (BPL) certificates. On the other hand thee are hundreds of examples, where well off families are enjoying the benefits of different schemes launched by the central for tribal and other deprived sections, and also having BPL certificates, making mockery of the entire system that boast itself made for upliftment of down trodden.

One glaring example of the alleged highhandedness of the department of issuing loans to dummy persons came to fore. The corporation had sanctioned loan in favour of Javed Bakerwal of Ban Talab.
Similarly, in another case, a vehicle loan was sanctioned on the name of one Abdul Hamid of Udhampur. Vehicles were purchased but the real person on behalf of whom the loan was sanctioned did not knew the truth.
State president, Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Tehreek-e-Insaaf (GBTI)

Mohammad Aslam Kohli highlighted this issue and found that the vehicles were in possession of high level politician, and one of the top officials of the SC/ST/OBC Corporation.
He also said that these were not the isolated cases; there are hundreds of such examples where officials of the corporation has amassed huge wealth at the cost of poor people
He also demanded to the state government to re-verify the developing schemes of BPL families and brought the culprits to the book.

Divisional Manager SC/ST/OBC Corporation, Jammu Choudhary Ghulam Qadir, could not be contacted for his comments about the alleged allegations being leveled on the corporation and also alleged misuse of funds being issued for benefit of down trodden sections of the society.
