Finally Jammu to have four multi-storey parking buildings

Nitesh Sangral

JAMMU, Feb 9: Jammu will finally have multi-storey parking buildings as the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) has completed the survey of the spots were they are proposed to be built.

Though they are behind schedule, but after the direction of the government JDA and JMC had conducted a joint survey in the city. Sources said work will start in May this year.

These multi storied parking buildings would be established at bus stand, super Bazzar, Doctors lane and Kachi Chawni. It is pertinent to mention here that city is facing huge problem of parking, as with addition of thousands of vehicles in past 20 years.

Major defined places have been established keeping in view the expansion. Multi-parking facilities a reality soon in Jammu.

It is pertinent to mention here that the state government adopting the proposal of other state but the Multi-storey parking are to be constructed from Super bazaar, Panjtharti and city chowk are also been approved. Also mentioned that the state government also decided the propsal of flyovers are to be constructed in the jammu city. The government only start work but they not complete work.

According to source the state government not serious about the Multi Storey parking in Jammu and Kashmir. The government only adopt the pattern of other state, but not able to apply the same.

The private bus operators to park their vehicle on the road rather than taking them inside the Bus Stand. Whereas, the concerned authorities including JDA and traffic police and transport department was not doing anything for contracted on work of multi- storey Parking at time. The exits vehicle parking areras are also not maintenance of the parking order in and around the bus stand and its beautification.

Interestingly, with the onset of winter and arrival of Civil Secretariat here, the life has become hell around Jammu Bus Stand for general public due to massive traffic jams and traffic choking mainly because of increase in vehicular movement and unauthorized parking of buses and other vehicles on ever busy B C Road.

However, the State Government has yet to develop a proper Inter State Bus Stand on the modern pattern.

“We have completed the survey and the work will start on these parking buildings soon to give better space for the vehicle owners”, said Vinod Sharma, Chairman JDA. Admitting that project is beyond schedule, Sharma said, “Survey was not

taken up on time in the past leading to some delay, but now it has been given as priority”.

Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored.
