Academic works suspended at GCET, as teaching staff go on strike

JAMMU, Feb 4: The Government College for Engineering and technology (GCET), teaching Staff continue protest against the State government for not full fill their demands but the government has not done at time.
It is pertinent to mention here that Government has given many assurances to solve the problems and provided every facility to the College. The Staff members still are working on same post and haven't got any benefits of promotions besides recommendations of 6th Pay Commission.

Recently, workshop organized at college, Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik has assured that he will ensure that posts are filled. "We will try to do our best. We are trying our best to provide quality staff so that students don't have to suffer". He, however, said that rules have been framed and sent to ARI Department for approval which is likely very soon.
Interestingly, the students of the College were suffering due to lack of basic facilities including hostel facility, and practical equipments even there is no manpower of the new campus.

Manoj Gupta said that the Higher Education Minister given assured to full fill the teaching Staff, completely infrastructure, 6th pay commission and Promotion in the last years but till time the Education Minister has not done anything for the College, he only given assurance to us.

He further said that all the teaching staff on the protest last 4 days and continues going on when would not fulfill our pending demands. Despite the prestigious institute, the GCET has failed to provide proper facilities to staff members, putting career of hundreds of students at stake, he added”.

They appealed to the state government to immediately fulfill our demands as soon as possible.

Official source, the GCET College has many vacant posts of the teaching staff and other employees. He further added that the employees recruitment process was started about 15 year back and till now they have been able to fill the vacancies as few people of showing interest.

Doctors' "negligence" claims 2 lives
