Mysterious death of police constable, FSL again in dock Family members awaiting forensic report

JAMMU, Jan 27: The shortage of staff at Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and apathy of the police has made family of the constable who died mysteriously wait to get justice and know the reason for their son’s death. FSL, whose record of cracking murder cases has always remained questionable, is also openly saying that it has shortage of staff that is why they were not able to provide details of their analysis.

Its three months now when the police constable Bupinder Manhas was found dead in a local hotel. While concerned Police authorities say that constable died because of taking heavy doses of drugs, but family members allege foul play in his death.

When contacted Deputy Director FSL, H C Bhatt said that the department have shortage of staff due to which the reports of many case from long time are still pending.

“We have so many samples pending here and have shortage of staff which is hampering investigation of many cases”.

When contacted Senior Superintend of Police (SSP) Kathua, J L Sharma said that he has recently joined and he does not know about the matter completely but he gives assurance that the department would check the entire case.

Sources said that it is strongly believed that the nexus between Restaurant owner, Political leader and ‘Chidi Gang’ people, had chalked out plan to kill the constable.

Interestingly, the police department also claimed that they are doing everything for reduced crime in the state, but reality is completely different on the ground level.

“If this will happen to police constable, what would be the fate of common man”, said a family member of the deceased”.

According to police report, the death of Bupinder Manhas was due to over doze of intoxicant capsule in the Mehak Restaurant at Kathua. Police claimed that huge amount of intoxicant capsule also recovered from the dead body. Family member of the deceased person alleged that the concerned police authorities not investigating the matter properly. They also said that the police arrested some people who were involved in the case but police released all the accused later on.

His family says that police also recovered cell phone from the restaurant waiter and arrested him but police released him after few days. They mentioned the police authority has not collected the report from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) till time.

They also alleged that there are also involvement of Restaurant owner which had been made for servants and workers working in the Restaurant than how it was possible that he reached in the Restaurant and found dead on the floor.

Source said there might be some political pressure on the police department due to which they are taking this case lightly. He disclosed that the Bupinder was with some persons who belong to ‘Chidi Gang’
