JAMMU,
June 27: Clouds of uncertainty are hovering over the additional MBBS seats at
Government Medical College Jammu due to apathetical attitude of the
administration which also failed to implement biometric attendance system
despite strong note taken by a team of Medical Council of India. Moreover, GMC
Jammu also failed to overcome other deficiencies pointed out by MCI.
MCI
team had granted temporary permission to GMC Jammu to go ahead with the present
150 seats of MBBS but at the same time it took strong note of absence of
biometric attendance system in the in premier institutes of the Jammu province.
Team made clear that the permission will not be given for next session, if
shortcomings are not met by the time it conducts next inspection, but the
administration seems least bothered to meet the criteria set by MCI.
Credible
Sources told Early Times that the administration of GMC Jammu had to face
embarrassment on the issue of biometric attendance system and the MCI team took
strong not of this deficiency and warned the administration to do the needful
at the earliest. "The MCI team had pin pointed deficiencies viz. shortage
of faculty, creating separate blocks in hostels for Boys and Girls, also
creating boys and girls hostel in RS Pura, Senior Residents Quarters, an
Examination Hall for 250 to 300 students, creating additional space in the
class rooms to accommodate more students and to upgrade library facilities and
overcome deficiencies in the blood bank.
"Since
2013, MCI had flagged shortcomings in the GMC for additional 50 seats and
despite repeated instructions, the concern authorities have failed to adhere to
them" a Senior faculty member told officials. He further said due to lack
of essential infrastructure and others facilities, proposed increase in MBBS
seats from 100 to 150 may not become reality.
He
stated said that few departments of the medical college does not have adequate
faculty. "The concerned management seems to be in no mood to protect the
additional seats and the fate of 50 seats for MBBS will be decided after the
inspection of the MCI team.
Principal
of GMC Jammu Dr Sunanda Raina claimed that most deficiencies are about to be
addressed by September this year. She toald that a letter has been written to
Deputy Commissioner Jammu for sending a team at GMC Jammu to make Adhaar Cards
of faculty members which is required to be linked with biometric attendance.
