Rehris outnumber vehicles on busy roads, JMC sleeping

  Nitesh Sangral                                 1/10/2013 7:27:07 PM JAMMU, Jan 10: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) seems to have turned blind eye towards nuisance created by “Rehris” across the city. These rehris not only lead to traffic chaos, but also cause hindrance in movement of pedestrians in busiest areas. There are around 500 to 800 rehris in the city. These rehris cause traffic jam and sometimes even lead to accidents. “It’s really very difficult to move on roads especially during the evening hours when rehriwallas are in full swing. They not only cause hindrance to smooth movement of vehicles on road but also create nuisance. The department has warned that if guidelines were not met, the institutions will be closed. Interestingly, in 2010 the department made a committee that had asked the private schools as well as tuitions centres to submit their fee structure in written so that guidelines and fee structure could be devised in general. Traffic ploice get 15 days to bus operators wear uniforms                                1/7/2013 6:14:02 PM  JAMMU, Jan 07: Ultimately the State Traffic Police department has woke up and given 15 days ultimatum to the all commercial transporters to wear the uniforms “khaki”. If anyone who will not wear the uniform, they department officials take some legal and strict action against them. It is pertinent to mention here that the order to wear uniform was issued in 2009, directing drives and conductors of commercial vehicles like matadors and busses to wear Khaki colour shirt and trouser, to identify them but no one has taken it seriously. “Finally, after 3 years have been passed, the traffic police department has woke up and starts to streamline traffic in the Jammu and Kashmir,” source said.
