Traffic deptt to issue three month validity certificate to commercial vehicles

JAMMU, Oct 03: Keeping in view the scrapping of Traffic Nakas to curb the corruption, Traffic Police department has decided to give three month validity certificate to the commercial vehicles.

Sources said that the traffic police has also decided to organise mobile squads to initiate checking after three months and take action against the vehicles which are violating the norms.

However officials said that department still has right to conduct surprise checks and take action against the drivers who are plying their vehicles in violation of the rules and without proper documents.

Official’s source said that the department has given the order to a company for make these certificates. It will take some time for made the certificates. “Traffic department officials will distribute these certificates to the commercials vehicles so that they can be identified. This a those will also be identified who are violating the norms”, said a official. .

It is pertinent to mention here that on September 28 the Traffic department has decided to abolish all static traffic check points on National High Way from Lakhanpur to Jawahar Tunnel. All traffic Nakkas on national highway from Lakhanpur to Srinagar were closed keeping in view the frequent complaints of corruption. Department of Traffic has issued orders that any traffic seen checking vehicles on highway or laying nakas will be dealt severally.

Till date there was about five dozen permanent traffic Nakas on the highway in the state besides numerous temporary nakas were laid to collect money.

Inspector General Traffic Mr. S.K.Lohia said that this has been necessitated to done away with the menace of corruption on highway. He also appealed the public in general to inform the department if any cop seen violating the orders on the highway.

“The department has not given long period validity, the commercial vehicles owners have only given 3 months validity. The complete time period, they owners renew their certificate from the traffic department,” he added.

He further said that the owners faced problems on the road but after getting certificates, they will face problems for getting these certificates after every three months. Some vehicles also have not complete documents. Due to which those types’ vehicles may be not issue the certificate by the traffic police.

When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic Manmohan Singh, said that the traffic department has issued the order to will make these certificates.

He further said the every 3 months validity the commercial vehicle owners will have to apply for new certificate again. The vehicle owners does not thing after getting certificate they will violate the rules and department did not take any action against them. The officials always watch them.
