Jammu gets its first PSK Passport issuance to be fully computerised in state Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, Apr 24: There is good news for the resident of Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding districts, aspiring to apply for a passport or to avail miscellaneous passport services. For providing better and faster services, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has opened a Passport Seva Kendra (PSKs) in partnership with tat Consultancy Services (TCS) at the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The PSK which is located in the same building and adjacent to the existing passport office is a swanky facility with various amenities for citizens with the ambiance and quality of service delivery at par with international standards. Police to start drive against SIM card distributors in Jammu Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, Apr 23: With many of the mobile SIM card distributors ignoring the norms set by Home Department for issuing new connections, Police has decided to start a special drive against distributors in the state who are defying the rules. The Union Home Ministry has already given two warnings to the telecom companies and had directed the agencies in state to re-verify the customer's documents so that anti- national elements could not misuse of pre- paid SIM cards, telecom companies are still not following the norms. 241 cases registered against police personnel in last two years  Nitesh Sangral  JAMMU, Apr 21:  Don’t get surprised? While they are guardians of peace and order in Jammu and Kashmir there are 241 cases registered against police officials in the state during past two years. According to Home Department figures, out of the 241 cases, 206 of them were lodged during the present government. Jammu district tops with 48 cases followed by Doda district with 31, Ramban district with 23, Srinagar and Udhampur districts with 16 each, Poonch district with 13, Anantnag and Kulgam districts with 9 cases each. Road accidents cost lives of 1000 people during 2011 Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, Apr 08: Nearly 1000 persons lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir during 2011 in 6,000 road accidents across the state. Official figures reveal that in Jammu district alone there were 1344 road mishaps, including 132 fatal and 1212 non-fatal by the end of December 2011 in which 157 persons lost their lives while 1609 others suffered injuries. Comparing it with year 2010, nearly 1042 lives were lost in 6,136 road accidents making the roads as biggest killer of the people in J&K. “Accidents have become a major challenge for the administration, but it itself is responsible for failure to stop them in absence of any major policy. Most of the measures announced by the government have remained on papers only”, said a official. According to the report of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir Police, state has recorded 34.2 per cent crime rate in past five years. Since 2005, 22850 case were recorded, which has increased to, 25272 in 2010, showing increase of 2422 cases. The state has witnessed murders besides 896 kidnapping and abduction cases in last few years. Last year’s Union Home Minister released a report the state has witnessed 11869 crimes under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) while the numbers of total cognizable crimes of the year stands at 23223.
