JAMMU, May 23: Nearly 11,000 students will appear in the first ever Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET-2011) being conducted by university to select candidates for all the Master’s Degree Programmes and Diploma being conducted by JU. The tests will start from May 26-June 7, spread over four sessions of the 75 minute duration daily, to allow students to compete for 42 academic programmes at Post Graduate (PG). Giving information during a press conference, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. R.D Sharma said that there has been huge response from the candidates and each candidate was eligible to apply for maximum five courses. Sharma said that for the convenience of the appearing candidates, nine centres have been constituted for the entrance test across the state at Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, Bhaderwah, Srinagar and Leh. “The centres will duly function under the respective Govt. Degree College principals at these locations. Observers have been designated at all the centres to personally look after the whole process within their designated jurisdiction”, he said. He said that admission to the Master’s Degree Programmes and Diploma courses will be made on the basis of entrance test score and the academic merit of the qualifying examination (graduation level). As per the arrangement, the final merit of the appearing candidate will be calculated out of 100 by giving a weightage of 70, (the marks obtained in the Entrance Test and a weightage of 30 to the percentage of marks obtained in the last qualifying examination). “30 per cent will be calculated by giving the weightage of 10 per cent to the percentage of marks in Part I, II and III separately”, he said. Under the new arrangement, there will be negative marking in the entrance test also. “Every wrong answer will be awarded minus (-) 0.33 marks. Every candidate is required to obtain a minimum of 21 marks out of 70 questions for each subject, programme for general category candidates and 17 marks for candidates belonging to SC/ST/ST (residents of Leh and Kargil) category”, he said. Giving further information, Controller of Examination, Prof. G.M Bhat said that University has recently started M.Sc. IT programme at Kishtwar campus and some more courses are being introduced. Bhat said that several other proposed Post Graduate courses to be introduced in the satellite campuses include, Earth Science, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Kashmiri, Geology (Hydrology and Soil Dynamics), Applied Physics (5 years integrated course), Hotel Management, Chinese and Asian Languages (5 years integrated course), Physical Education, Fisheries, English and European Languages (5 years integrated course) and Education-Energy Management. Giving further information, Bhat said that the initiatives of the University related to development of its offsite campuses have received support from the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, which has sanctioned Rs 117 crores recently for the construction of buildings. Officials said that this is for the first time in the history of Jammu University that such huge grants have been approved by the UGC. Besides, the University has received a special grant of Rs 9 crores from the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi for the acquisition of expensive high-end equipment and for the promotion of teaching and research initiatives in the disciplines of Science. Also, eight Departments of the University Physics, Commerce, The Business School, Political Science, Geology, Chemistry, Botany and Environmental Sciences have been recognized by the UGC under Special Assistance Programme (SAP). |

It is penitent to mentioned, Minister for Health Bali Bhagat assured Upper House that the Principal Secretary H&ME Department handed over the proposal for increase of 133 PG seats in GMC, Srinagar and 107 PG seats in GMC, Jammu, as one time increase in Medical Colleges of State for the year 2018-19. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, through its communication dated March 6, 2018, has conveyed its approval for admitting 15 students in GMC Jammu and 29 for Srinagar for 2018-19.
