SMGS blood bank fails patients as blood goes down the drain

Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report JAMMU, June 28: Owing to mismanagement of the Shree Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Blood Bank's staff, about 60 units (350 or 375 ML in per unit) of blood and 40 to 50 unit of Fresh Frozen Plasma are ready to be discarded by the officials as it has passed its use-by date reportedly. Here it needs to be mentioned that several deaths can be caused due to severe blood loss in case there is a shortage of blood, plasma, or platelets. Over the past few years, there has been wastage of blood but who cares? Many times it is seen that people face severe hardship in arranging blood for their patients as most of the times they are denied blood from the blood banks and asked to arrange it on their own. Blood is precious for life and the same cannot be manufactured, it can be donated by a donor but unfortunately, the Government Medical College Jammu and its associated hospitals discard a huge quantity of blood and its components. Pertinently, since the establishment of IGGDC Jammu, PG course has not been started due to lethargic approach of the concerned whereas Dental College Srinagar has been running PG course for last many years. Sources told Early Times that the course was supposed to be started in May 2018 but owing to poor approach to introduce such course in Jammu as they failed to get clearance from NAAC, which is made compulsory by Dental Council of India (DCI) for all dental colleges throughout India to have accreditation by NAAC for running such course. Protest near emergency should be banned'

Unknown people stage protest, instigate docs to stop treatment, go on strike Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report JAMMU, June 3: It is very shameful that some people associated with political parties, are not letting doctors do their job by making GMC Jammu a 'protest hub' where they play politics on the excuse that doctors are not providing treatment to the needy patients. Moreover, these unscrupulous elements in the society create hurdles in treating patients and present the wrong image of doctors. Surprisingly, keeping in view that emergency is a of critical patients treatment area where cool and calm is required from all quarters, the State government and even concerned hospital authority have never bothered to take preventive measures to stop such protests in and around the emergency block. On Sunday, some unknown people gathered nearby emergency of the hospital and raised slogans against the GMC Jammu especially treating doctors, creating distraction among the sta...
