Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 14: The double standards of government can be gauged from the fact that on the one hand the State Government is claiming that government health sector is being boosted by opening new medicals colleges and other health institutions across State but on the other side private players were urged to invest in Jammu and Kashmir's Health Sector.
Here is need to mention that the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat had urged private players to invest in state's Health sector during a CME resulting the doctors' fraternity has divided over the Minister' statement.
A group of doctors alleged that the Health Ministry is not serious about the State particularly Jammu's health sectors and gradually the government health institutions are being privatized by opening PP mode, shops, and outsourcing bathrooms. It shows the policies and vision of the concerned toward the government health hospitals.
"Instead of urging private players, the State Government should think about the poor and middle class --- who can't afford costly advance treatment--- and should boost the government sector by introducing new and advance treatment so that people of the State avail the treatment at affordable rates, "doctors told and adding that privatization is not a solution. Privatization leads to hike health expenditures attributed to the increased the cost of medical consultations, drugs, and tests because of pressure to make profits.
"Look at other states' private sectors, many of them promotes uncalled for investigations and treatment in order to recover their initial investment. Everyone involved in this has to earn more and more and allegedly looting. As privatization is a profession, is not just public services," they claimed.
They added that it seems the government has lack of policies and vision to upgrade Jammu's health institutions.
The statement is raising question mark over the practices of doctors who are working in government sector as they are ineligible to provide advanced treatment that's why private players are being urged to invest.
They asked what we can expect from Government - which takes tax from people but fail to utilize properly-which is unable to guarantee its people to provide clean water, healthy food, and proper treatments so far? All these steps are being taken to appease their near and dears or politically motivated.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
