Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 31: After getting so many assurances from successive governments as well as Health Ministry, thousands of youth holding Male Multipurpose Health Worker (MMPHW) diploma holders are running from pillar to post for seeking jobs in various health institutions across State.

There were hundreds of youth have been holding the MMPHW diploma since 2009 due to alleged gender discrimination during recruitment in various places. No posts were created for them since 2009 while Female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMPHWs) are recruited time and again.
"Over 5000 youth of the Jammu and Kashmir have got MMPHW diploma from different private colleges across State in past seven to eight years and huge numbers of the youth are at the moment studying the course in different colleges within and outside the state, "Basharat Banday, President of MMPHW Jammu province, told.
He also added that the department concerned had advertised a single post and 13 posts for Female Multipurpose Health Worker for Anantnag district. Expected one post of MMPHW, no more recruitment took place either under state quota or under different centrally sponsored schemes. He slammed Health Ministry's ignorant and discriminatory attitude towards male workers and asked why health department advertise only FMPHW's posts since 2009 and ignoring them always.
"It appears that either concerned Ministry wants to ruin our future or sit idle at home and increase the burden on families by continuing recruitments of FMPHWs, time to time and failed to advertise a single post for MMPHW diploma holders since 2009.
Besides, he also told there are numbers of the private paramedical colleges which are functional and giving admissions to youth for pursuing Multipurpose Health worker courses causing unemployment of the diploma holders is increasing.
Principal Secretary, H&ME Department Dr Pawan Kotwal was not available for comments.
