Early Times Report

Jammu, April 2: Not a single camp was held in Jammu today to mark World Autism Awareness Day, reflecting government’s non-seriousness in fighting the crippling disease.
Autism is a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people.
According to sources, on an average two autistic children are brought to hospitals every week in Jammu province. “The number of autistic children might be high as a lot of cases are not reported because of lack of awareness among people about the disease,” the sources told Early Times.
“Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu is dealing with such cases but they lack a trained staff as well as required facilities to deal with austistic patients. The Health Department has also done little to establish facilities so that autistic children could get proper treatment , “they said.
A doctor said that people are also ignorant about autism which actually needs intervention and training so that autistic kids can be rehabilitated. “People could have been made aware about the disease by holding awareness camps, but the authorities seem not bothered over the issue,” the doctor said.
When contacted, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry department Dr Mannu Arora refused to comment, saying he was busy with the patients.

Sports bodies abandons champion athlete Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 26: At a time when the Union, as well as state governments, are pumping huge funds into sports for the constructive channelization of the energy of the youth of the state, it a pity that a champion athlete is fighting a lone battle against a chronic physical ailment and the J&K state sports Council and J&K Olympic association who have lakhs of rupees for the welfare of sports persons have abandoned him. A champion Wushu player, Arun Singh Charak, who has an international bronze medal to his credit is depending upon some philanthropists, family and friends to meet the expenses of his treatment against a brain tumor. Some year ago when greetings were showered from all concerned sports authorities when Arun Singh Charak was in media limelight and was on winning spree and bagged many awards and medals as Wushu player of state at national and international level. Pertinently, since the establishment of IGGDC Jammu, PG course has not been started due to lethargic approach of the concerned whereas Dental College Srinagar has been running PG course for last many years. Sources told Early Times that the course was supposed to be started in May 2018 but owing to poor approach to introduce such course in Jammu as they failed to get clearance from NAAC, which is made compulsory by Dental Council of India (DCI) for all dental colleges throughout India to have accreditation by NAAC for running such course. "As offici...
