Mess condition of hospitals Nearly 406 posts of doctors vacant in GMC, Jammu, Srinagar Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, May 20: Nearly 406 posts of doctors in Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and Srinagar are vacant as the recruiting agencies have failed to speed up the recruitment process. As per the data, against the sanctioned strength of 702, a about 406 posts are lying vacant for last many years. Off the vacant posts 291 posts are sanctioned in Jammu whereas 501 posts are vacant in Kashmir division at both the premier medical colleges of the state. Sources discloses that in Jammu there are 48 posts of professor, off which 22 posts have been filled while 26 posts are still vacant. On the other hand there is need of 49 Associate Professor, out of which 26 posts have been filled while 23 posts are vacant. Sources said that if the present situation continues, it may put at risk the preparations of the state gymnasts for the forthcoming national games and other national and international championships. Short circuit is believed to be cause of the fire, which was still engulfing till last reports came in even as Fire tenders had reached the spot and started the operation to control the blazes. A number of shops and sheds have been damaged in the fire that broke out around 9.30 p.m. Before, the fire tenders could reach the site and start fire control operation, the blazes engulfed more than half a dozen shops resulting into massive loss. In this regard the Government of India (GOI) approved of up-gradation of the State Institute of Education (SIE) Jammu to the level of Institute of Educational Management and Training (SIEMAT) subject to furnishing of a proposal by the state government and also taking-over of the project once its central funding was over. A provision of Rs 3 Cr. was kept for the project in the 10th plan under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). 32,611 traffic violators challaned by Traffic police in Jammu Nitesh Sangral JAMMU Apr 27: The “challan” system for collecting traffic fines has been a runaway success, some months after it was introduced in Jammu and Kashmir, the number of cases booked and the money collected as fine have doubled. According to traffic police department record, in January to February, 32,611 traffic violators have been challaned by traffic police and these violators also filed in the Jammu court.
