Despite HC's direction, GMC purchases FVIII at high rates

3/29/2018 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 29: Ignoring J&K High Court's directions to purchase Factor VIII (FVIII) at lowest rates, the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu and associated hospitals made purchases at exorbitant rates. The HC's order copy in possession of Early Times states that on March 23, 2018, Judge Alok Aradhe disposed of writ petition filed by Advocate Ankur Sharma, by directing the respondent to procure the drugs for haemophilia patients before March 31, 2018 from competitive available lowest suppliers. FVIII is an essential blood-clotting protein, also known as anti-hemophilic factor (AHF). If official sources are to be believed, the hospital authorities made purchases from a company allegedly under the influence of some doctors who are not willing to administer drugs of other companies to patients. It exposes the alleged nexus of some doctors with pharmaceutical companies. Earlier, some senior doctors, s...

GMC adopts double yardstick for Influential, Commoner docs

Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 12: It is strange but true that the Principal of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu has different yardstick for different set of doctors. A doctor who commented on Minister's FB with Hashtag 'Stopfoolingpeople' was called by Principal GMC in her chamber and asked to explain his position for allegedly wrong comments on FB. But she never dared to seek explanation from a controversial doctor who had commented against Chief Minister few months ago. Two days after inauguration of the Tetanus Ward and newly installed lift, a doctor made a comment raising doubt that the lift/escalator was not replaced with new version. Instead of showing facts, some close aides of power corridors started accusing or allegedly threatening him for spreading false propaganda and directed him to remain his job specific at the Hospital and do not interfere in administrative matters. On March 11, one Dr Amit made a comment as "Gener...

Who will become scapegoat for less PG seats?

Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 7: Soon after union Health Ministry allotted 15 more Post Graduate seats to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, it has become talk of the town and people are keen to see as to who will become a scapegoat for getting less seats. It needs to be mentioned that last year GMC Jammu had got 13 seats and then Principal of the institution become scapegoat for losing the seats. "Apparently reluctant to enhance, the Principal of the college has deliberately given poor response to Medical Council of India's queries about shortcomings, "aspirants told Early Times, adding that GMC Jammu intentionally had showed non-serious approach to the reminders sent by the MCI for last many years. "Their reluctance to respond, GMC Jammu had an opportunity to add at least 20 or more post-graduation seats to its existing pool. The management of the GMC Jammu had responsible for the unprecedented and irreparable loss caused to the aspirants of Jammu in th...

GMC Jammu gets 15 more PG seats, Srinagar bags 29

Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 6: The State Health Ministry' claims regarding increase in PG seats in broad specialties have fallen flat as Medical Council of India has granted only 13 more PG seats to the Government Medical College Jammu, while GMC Srinagar has got 30, thanks for not conducting Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of faculty members. It is penitent to mentioned, Minister for Health Bali Bhagat assured Upper House that the Principal Secretary H&ME Department handed over the proposal for increase of 133 PG seats in GMC, Srinagar and 107 PG seats in GMC, Jammu, as one time increase in Medical Colleges of State for the year 2018-19. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, through its communication dated March 6, 2018, has conveyed its approval for admitting 15 students in GMC Jammu and 29 for Srinagar for 2018-19. As per notification, in GMC Jammu the total number of existing seats for MD Anaesthesiology was 5 while the seats available ...

Another setback to GMC Jammu

Health Ministry refuses to increase PG seats Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 3: The decision of the Union Health Ministry not to enhance PG quota has left the medical aspirants shocked. Pertinent to mention on last Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) rejected the proposal for postgraduate seat enhancement in the GMC Jammu and only four out of the expected 25 seats in GMC Srinagar have been approved, that too in nonclinical departments. A senior official of Health and Medical Education Department, seeking anonymity, told Early Times that there was nothing to be surprised in the decision of the Union Health Ministry because its credit goes to the administration of the GMC Jammu, which has completely failed to overcome the shortcomings despite repeated warnings by the Medical Council of India (MCI)'s team. Instead of redressing the deficiencies, the GMC Jammu has preferred to misguide the concerned higher authority on the shortcomings. ...
